Food journey

Icelandic culinary art is in constant evolution, it has attracted numerous international awards and Michelin recommendations. Icelandic cuisine has not forgotten its humble roots with dried fish and butter or the fermented shark usually washed down with a shot of Brennivín.

Try our up-to-the-moment selection of leading restaurants and see the locals. Visit a hydro powered greenhouse where fresh produce is grown all year round and served right on the spot or an ice cream stop at the local dairy farm, will give you a taste of ultra-fresh ingredients.

Personal chefs cater to your simplest of wishes to the most elaborate fests. For the adventurous ones the personal chefs will conjure rare seasonal delicacies or you can enjoy a more intimate seating at the chef’s table. From gourmet packed lunches to one time only pop-up restaurants, no journey is complete without pleasing the palate and at Ad Astra Travel we will do just that.

Culture and history

The untouched nature and scenic landscape in Iceland might be the first reason for your visit but it should be far from the only one. Rich history of the Icelandic people since the time of settlement with conflict in religion from the Old Norse Mythology to converting to Christianity is intertwined in Þingvellir National Park and the Golden Circle. Folk tales of trolls and elves and mystic creatures have lived through the ages and to date the Icelanders believe in ghosts and hidden people.

Several museums in Iceland are worth the visit ranging from the National History Museum to local heritage museums in small villages or specially themed ones líke the Punk museum or 1238 The Battle of Iceland where using the latest virtual reality technology you take part.

The Icelandic nature and atmosphere has long inspired creativity in our poets, musicians and visual artists seeking inspiration from the land. Live events can be found in Reykjavík City center in Harpa Concert Hall as well as smaller venues around the city. During the summer season small town festivals are held so if that interests you, be sure to let us know.

Local art galleries and co-op run shops by locals with handmade and homemade souvenirs on offer can help you in finding unique objects, paintings, ceramics or a wool pair of gloves to remember your visit once you are back home.

Activities can also be relaxing in a geothermal hot pool when in Iceland

Relax

Whether you prefer lounging by the fire in a subterranean spa in a five-star hideaway where time loses its meaning or if you seek rural peace and quiet in our ultra private and fully serviced properties all around the country, Ad Astra Travels portfolio will provide all that and more.

The geothermal hot water in Iceland has had an attraction for centuries integrated in our culture to bathe and go swimming. Children are thought to swim from an early age and we take them for an evening swim just before bed to relax. We nurture body and soul, escape from external stimuli and meet friends and family at the local swimming pool for a discussion on world affairs in the hot pot. No speaking in the sauna, that is reserved for relaxing.

Spas and lagoons can be found around Iceland in abundance so whether you want to watch the midnight sun during the summer or catch a glimpse of the northern lights in the winter season we will find you the perfect fit for you.

Serenity is just a phone call away whether you need me-time or we-time.

On the trail

When in Iceland you should always stay on the trail, offroading is forbidden by law in order to preserve our fragile moss and landscape.

You can go hiking with your own two feet and test yourself in the elements. Biking either on a mountain bike or electric bike will give you the opportunity to cover more ground. Horseback riding on the unique Icelandic horse with its smooth and desirable gait Tölt will provide a completely different experience and should you want more than one horsepower our portfolio will offer tours on an ATV or SXS side-by-side.

In a several day itinerary created by Ad Astra Travel we make sure you get to do outdoor activities every single day leaving you energized and excited for the next day’s adventure.
